How to Clean a Skimmer Basket, Solar Panel, and Sensors
Shut down and retrieve the skimmer using its exact owner procedure before cleaning. Basket mesh, solar panels, sensors and charging ports need different treatment: a permitted basket rinse does not authorize pressure washing the panel, and a damp panel cloth does not authorize water at an electrical port. Cleaning can remove debris or residue; it cannot repair torn mesh, a broken latch or a damaged seal.

Basket: follow the exact removal, rinse and drying sequence
For EcoSurfer S2, Aiper says to direct garden-hose water against the normal mesh-flow direction, rinse thoroughly and air-dry before reinstalling; it expressly prohibits pressure washing. The same current support page says both to clean after every 2–3 sessions and to remove the basket after each session. Treat that as a source inconsistency: inspect actual loading and use the exact manual/support direction for the supplied revision rather than inventing one interval for every pool.
For Polaris Skimbot, the revision-C manual uses a low-pressure stream for the slide-out tray and requires the tray to click when reinstalled. With either system empty, inspect mesh, frame and latch. Aiper identifies torn mesh, a cracked frame or a latch that no longer clicks as replacement signals; more aggressive washing cannot restore them.
Panel and sensors: remove residue without damaging the surface
Betta's current FAQ recommends gentle soapy water with a soft microfiber towel followed by a fresh-water rinse for the panel and body. For the white mineral or pool-chemical residue it describes, Betta permits a light garden-hose spray and soft-cloth wipe, while explicitly prohibiting pressure washing or scraping.
Polaris instead specifies a damp soft cloth for the Skimbot panel and sensors, with no pressure washing or scraping of the panel. A chemical suitable for pool water is not automatically suitable for either surface. If the allowed method leaves a mark, ask the manufacturer rather than escalating to an abrasive, coating or unlisted cleaner.
Charging ports and moving parts need separate boundaries
WYBOT F1 guidance requires a dry charging port and original or authorized charging equipment for DC charging. Keep rinse water away from an electrical opening and complete the exact drying and closure steps before charging or relaunching. A clean-looking port is not proof that its seal is intact.
For owner-accessible propeller debris, first switch the unit off and follow the exact model procedure. Do not turn routine basket or panel care into sealed-housing disassembly, and do not substitute another brand's charger merely because the connector appears to fit.
Reseat the basket before judging collection
Return the basket or tray in the orientation and latch position shown in the manual. Aiper identifies incorrect S2 seating as one reason debris can bypass the filter and leave through the top jets; Polaris requires the Skimbot tray to click into place. A clean container fitted incorrectly can therefore leave the original symptom unresolved.
During the next ordinary session, check whether debris is being retained and whether the previous symptom returns. Use the collection troubleshooting guide if an empty, correctly fitted basket still loses material.
Let debris load inform the routine
Use the manufacturer’s model-specific care direction as the baseline and observe how quickly the basket fills in your pool. A leaf-heavy period may require attention before a stated interval, while an empty basket with poor collection points elsewhere. Record the component, permitted care performed and result so a service request is specific rather than repeating increasingly aggressive cleaning.

Can I pressure-wash a stubbornly dirty basket?
Aiper explicitly prohibits pressure washing in its S2 guidance and recommends a gentle hose rinse. For another model, use its approved method; persistent dirt is not a reason to increase pressure beyond that procedure.
How do I know whether cleaning helped?
Look for the symptom you were trying to fix. After basket care, check whether material is retained with the basket correctly seated. After panel or sensor care, compare the relevant charging or navigation behavior under similar conditions. Persistent damage or malfunction needs a separate assessment.
How often should I clean a solar-skimmer basket?
Use the exact model guidance and the observed debris load. Aiper's current EcoSurfer S2 page contains both an every-session instruction and a 2–3-session interval, so this guide does not turn either into a universal schedule. Empty a visibly full or restricted basket before the next run.
