How to Store a Solar Pool Skimmer for Winter
Winter storage is model specific. Betta calls for a clean, dry, switched-off unit indoors away from direct sunlight and freezing temperatures. Polaris Skimbot uses a different full-charge procedure that lets its electronics reduce the battery to a storage level. Close the season with a condition record
Complete the exact shutdown, basket cleaning, panel care and drying procedure before storage. Photograph the model label, note the last normal battery/status indication and keep any open service case with the unit. That record separates an existing fault from a symptom first noticed after winter.
Inspect the basket or tray, latch, panel, sensors, charging-port cover and owner-accessible moving parts. Visible damage or a persistent charging fault belongs in model-specific service guidance before storage; packing a wet or damaged machine does not make the problem seasonal.
Betta: clean, dry, switched off and indoors
Betta's current FAQ says to clean and fully dry the unit, turn the power switch off, remove basket debris and wipe the solar panel. It then specifies indoor storage in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and freezing temperatures. That sequence also avoids leaving the unit in a hot, dry, sun-exposed spot while out of the pool.
The FAQ does not establish one maintenance-charge interval for every Betta revision. Keep the exact manual and any model-specific adapter with the unit, and ask Betta when the shipped documentation does not state whether or when an off-season charge is required.
Polaris Skimbot: use its automatic storage-level sequence
The Skimbot revision-C manual gives a different procedure: begin with a full charge, then allow the machine's electronics to lower the battery to its storage level. Keep the unit dry and above freezing. Do not replace that sequence with an editor-chosen percentage or Betta's switch-off wording.
Polaris describes the lithium iron phosphate battery as maintenance-free, non-serviceable and non-replaceable. Do not open the housing for an off-season battery check. If the documented sequence cannot complete or the housing is damaged, use the manufacturer service route.
Store the correct accessories without creating a new hazard
Label model-specific chargers, remotes, gateways and retrieval accessories so a similar connector is not treated as compatibility next spring. Keep charging equipment dry and protect the panel, sensors and basket from pressure by other stored items.
If another brand or revision gives no battery-storage or maintenance-charge instruction, ask its manufacturer instead of borrowing Betta or Polaris steps. Unknown is not permission to leave a unit charging unattended or to use a generic adapter.
