Betta SE Plus: Dual Charging and Practical Buying Advice

The feature that changes the decision

Betta specifies solar and adapter charging, a 200-micron basket, a handheld remote and a shallow-water safeguard. Its stated full-charge runtime is 30-plus hours. Charging estimates are five to six hours in direct sun or approximately 3.5 hours by adapter. These are manufacturer estimates rather than measurements taken by this site, and they do not establish a fixed schedule for a shaded or winter pool.

The current manufacturer page lists device-only and device-plus-storage-bag offers. That bundle label does not mean the core charger or controls can be assumed from a marketplace photograph. Confirm the exact SE Plus identity and included adapter, remote, instructions and optional storage bag on the offer being purchased.

What adapter charging asks of the owner

An adapter gives you a way to recharge through shade or dull weather, but it also requires retrieval and a charging routine that follows the supplied instructions. If your pool already receives reliable direct sunlight, that fallback may matter less. The practical comparison with SE is whether you need a charging option independent of sunshine.

Measure the 3.5-inch operating floor

Betta's current FAQ publishes a 3.5-inch minimum operating depth for SE Plus, compared with 5 inches for SE. Measure awkward areas such as steps, tanning shelves and narrow connections instead of assuming the anti-stranding safeguard guarantees problem-free coverage. A published minimum is an exclusion threshold, not a promise that the robot will enter, turn on or clean every shallow area.

The SE Plus manual says to adjust its anti-stranding bars in matched front or rear pairs to keep the machine balanced. Do not copy a bar setting from another Betta generation or treat the bars as permission to operate below the published depth.

Remote control is not app control

SE Plus uses a factory-paired handheld remote rather than the Neo app. The manual says any remote button enters manual control; holding the center button for two seconds returns the unit to automatic mode, and two minutes without remote input also triggers a return. Solid green lights identify remote mode, so check the indicator before assuming autonomous navigation has resumed.

If scheduling, phone status or off-deck control is the actual requirement, compare Neo rather than assigning those functions to SE Plus. If occasional directional retrieval is enough, the physical remote may be the simpler match. Neither control style proves better debris collection.

Water and simultaneous-cleaner limits

The SE Plus manual permits salty water up to 5,000 ppm and lists one-year manufacturer coverage, with seawater excluded. Betta's current FAQ separately gives a below-20-ppm chlorine limit. Match those boundaries to the maintained pool rather than using them as chemistry targets.

The current SE Plus web manual says not to use the robot while another cleaning device is in the pool. Betta's general FAQ now describes a possible hose-clearance setup for some wired underwater cleaners. Because the two published instructions are not aligned, use the exact supplied manual and ask Betta for model-specific guidance before running both. Remove the robot before swimming.
