Solar Skimmer Moving but Not Collecting Debris?
Watch what happens to the remaining debris. Material the robot never reaches, material it passes without retaining, and material that escapes from the basket need different checks. A surface skimmer also cannot do the same job as a floor cleaner once debris has settled.

The material is on the floor or in a patch the robot cannot reach
First establish whether it is still floating. Settled material belongs in the surface-skimmer-versus-pool-cleaner decision, rather than a basket repair. For floating material, watch whether the robot reaches that area and makes a collection pass.
If it repeatedly stops at a step, ladder or narrow connection before reaching the patch, use the obstacle guide. A different basket will not remove a physical access limit. A short video of the approach and exit can show whether the problem is isolated to that feature.
It reaches the debris, but the basket is full or material escapes
Complete the model’s shutdown and basket-removal procedure, then empty and inspect the container. Aiper’s S2 guidance identifies a full basket and incorrect seating as causes of poor collection or escaping material. Refit it in the documented orientation with the latch correctly engaged.
Look for damaged mesh or a faulty latch and confirm the compatible replacement route if needed. Other models require their own checks. Do not add an improvised filter layer or accessory that changes the collection assembly without manufacturer approval.
An empty, correctly seated basket still misses material
Compare what is retained with what remains floating during an ordinary session. Note the type of material, whether the skimmer actually passes it and whether the problem appears throughout the pool. One missed leaf is less informative than a repeated failure at the collection opening.
If material repeatedly escapes or is missed after normal care, send the manufacturer the model, basket condition, seating photos and a video of the collection behavior. Ask for the next owner check before buying parts. Persistent inability to handle the intended debris may also be a product-fit issue to review within the applicable return period.
Common questions
Does a full basket mean the skimmer has failed?
No. It shows material has been collected and signals the need for normal emptying. Reassess with an inspected, correctly seated basket; recurring escape after that needs another check.
Can a better basket fix every missed area?
No. A basket cannot resolve a shelf or narrow passage that prevents the robot reaching debris, or make a surface skimmer collect settled floor material. Identify where collection fails before choosing a replacement part.
