Betta Flex is worth considering for its different body design and operating modes; Betta SE remains a straightforward solar-only option. Both depend on sunlight
The SE and Flex manuals explicitly state that these models have no AC, DC or USB charging port. If reliable adapter charging is your main requirement, move to a different comparison instead of assuming Flex includes it.
Our buying advice is to observe the water surface through a normal day. A yard may be sunny while the pool sits beneath a tree canopy or roof shadow. Record where sunlight reaches the water and whether the robot can access that area. This gives you a more useful purchase question than simply asking whether your state has a sunny climate.
Flex changes the operating routine
Flex provides Normal and Eco modes. Its manual describes Eco operation pausing after four hours, with the pause adjusted to battery level. A planned pause is therefore different from a mechanical failure.
Consider whether intermittent skimming suits your debris pattern. Light, scattered debris may make a periodic routine appealing. If leaves collect rapidly at particular times, observe those periods carefully during initial use. We have not measured a cleaning advantage for either model, and mode labels alone cannot establish how quickly your pool will clear.
Low profile does not mean shallower water
Betta’s FAQ gives minimum depths of 6 inches for Flex and 5 inches for SE. The Flex product page describes a lower-profile, soft-touch body and lists infinity-pool compatibility. Those are separate design claims from minimum water depth.
For an infinity edge, obtain approval for your specific layout and flow conditions. For a sun shelf, measure actual water above the shelf. A robot can be compact above the water and still need clearance underneath. Do not choose Flex just because a photo makes it look flatter.
Resolve package differences before checkout
The Flex product comparison and manual are inconsistent about remote-control availability: the product comparison marks no remote while manual text discusses an optional remote. Confirm the contents of the exact listing instead of treating a handheld remote as guaranteed.
Our recommendation is SE when its physical fit and automatic routine meet your needs. Consider Flex when its body design or Eco mode has a specific benefit you can name. If you mainly want cloudy-weather backup, compare SE Plus. Keep the receipt and supplied manual, and check the first few runs around every ledge and opening.
