Betta Neo Gateway and App: Setup and Paused-Mode Checks
Betta Neo uses the BettaBot app and an included gateway. Its physical switch matters: the official manual says AUTO/APP can run automatically without app pairing, while APP depends on the app and starts in a paused state until commanded or scheduled. Check that distinction before treating a still robot as a connection or motor failure.

Prepare the Neo equipment together
Before the first use, inspect the basket for the accessories packaged inside it. Betta’s Neo manual specifically identifies the gateway among those items. Keep the gateway, its supplied power equipment, the robot label, and the Neo instructions together while completing setup.
Use the app link supplied by Betta. The manufacturer’s app-download page says this app is designed specifically for Neo. An SE or SE Plus does not become app-enabled by installing it, and a similarly named app is not a reason to enter your account information.
Read the physical switch before the phone screen
Confirm the position on the robot itself. AUTO/APP is the useful distinction for owners who expected autonomous cleaning before completing app setup. APP is appropriate only with the app arrangement in place; its initial pause should not be interpreted as proof that the propellers have failed.
Write down both the switch position and the state shown in the app. If they appear inconsistent, preserve a screenshot and label photograph for support. Do not guess that moving repeatedly between switch positions performs a factory reset.
Follow the gateway prompts for this version
Use the current Neo manual and the in-app instructions to complete the connection. Keep the supplied gateway powered in the location and arrangement its instructions permit. Do not assume the gateway shares the robot’s water protection or place its power equipment beside water without explicit guidance.
If setup stops, record the exact stage: app installation, gateway discovery, home-network connection, or connection to the skimmer. These are different problems. A message saying setup failed loses information that the actual error screen can preserve.
Check whether the failure is location-dependent
Once setup succeeds, observe the connection in the robot’s normal operating area. Note whether the issue appears only at one end of the pool, after moving the gateway, or after a home-network change. Keep the first successful arrangement in your notes so later troubleshooting has a reference.
An advertised range is not a guarantee for every wall, building, or pool layout. Avoid promising a particular distance based on another owner’s property. Ask Betta about the intended gateway placement if normal operation remains unreliable.
Escalate with the right evidence
Send the Neo serial number, switch position, gateway identification, app version, and the exact error text through Betta’s official support route. Explain whether autonomous operation works and whether the problem affects only app commands. Remove Wi-Fi passwords and unrelated account details from screenshots before sharing them.
Common questions
Can Betta Neo clean before I connect its app?
The Neo manual says AUTO/APP can operate automatically without the gateway or app connection.
Why is Neo paused in APP mode?
The manual describes APP mode as initially paused until an app command or configured schedule starts operation.
Can I use the BettaBot app with SE Plus?
Betta identifies its app as exclusive to Neo; check the exact product rather than assuming family-wide support.
